Visiting World's Tallest Outdoor Lift

June 13, 2018

The World Elevator & Escalator Expo 2016 has been held successfully in National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) during May 10 -13. With innovation and development as it’s themes, the Expo 2016 is the largest ever in history in terms of the scale and the number of participants, totaling exhibition square of over 135,000 square meters and over 1200 exhibitors from home and abroad, and receiving an audience of 120 thousand. Foreign enterprises from Germany, the United States, Japan, Korea, Italy, India, Turkey, Singapore and many others.

Tech Engineering Group employees were among visitors this year and got to meet several biggest elevator brands in the world. Besides that, a lot of new technologies and elevator solutions have been presented, which gave them a chance to see everything first-hand and communicate important technological aspects with manufacturers.

As one of the leader elevator companies in Georgia, Tech Engineering Group decided to use this opportunity and extended this trip in China in order to visit this amazing sight and see tallest outdoor lift and get to know technologies that were used in order to build it. Undeniably, this is a construction worth seeing, especially when it is the tallest double-deck elevator and the fastest passenger elevator with the largest loading capacity.

The Bailong Elevator  (literally Hundred Dragons Elevator) is a glass elevator built onto the side of a huge cliff in the Wulingyuan area of Zhangjiajie, People's Republic of China that is 326 m high. It is claimed to be the highest and heaviest outdoor elevator in the world. Construction of the elevator began in October 1999, and it was opened to the public by 2002. The environmental effects of the elevator have been a subject of debate and controversy, as the Wulingyan area was designated a World Heritage Site in 2002. Operations were stopped for 10 months in 2002-2003, reportedly due to safety concerns, not environmental ones.

On 16 July 2015, the elevator was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s tallest outdoor lift.

This experience and gained knowledge will be very beneficial for many further projects that are waiting for Tech Engineering Group in Georgia.
